ABRASIVE TOOLS FOR BRUSHING CERAMIC TILES

At the end of the firing process, a brushing process is often required, the purpose of which is to reduce the roughness of the surface or to clean it from engobe residues , dust or other elements that could distort the reading during the selection.

In the first case, when the surface needs to be modified to the touch, non-woven fabric tools with silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive are used. In the second case, white non-woven fabric tools without abrasive are used. The tools used for this process can be cylindrical or in the form of cup wheels.

ABRASIVE WHEELS DIMENSIONS

The range of tools for this type of application consists of wheels with an external diameter of 150 mm and a 50 mm hole and, to a lesser extent, wheels with an external diameter of 200 mm and a 76/80 mm hole . The most commonly used thickness is 40 mm, followed by 50 mm and other smaller ones. The maximum speed is 3200 rpm for the 150 mm wheels and 2500 rpm for the 200 mm ones .

WHEEL DENSITY

The density of a wheel depends on the number of flaps it contains . Given the same density, the number of flaps can vary depending on the type of material. Given the same pressure, a soft wheel has flaps that flex more than a wheel with a higher density; therefore, the more flexed flap leaves a longer mark on the worked surface than the flap that works at the tip .
